Meet julie // Fine art photographer & educator
Hello, my name is Julie R. Jones and I am a fine art and portrait photographer raised and based in Dayton, Ohio. Both my artistic and commercial practices revolve around the Greater Miami Valley, where I work to transform the everyday into whimsical and unique moments based around my subjects and cliental. My style is best described as "magical realism," with a studied attention to natural light and vivid color. Whether you're looking for an intimate documentation into your family life, an artistic and genuine portrait, or a whimsical and candid take on your wedding day my services will allow you to relax and be present in the moment, as your story unfolds in front of my camera.
I have had the pleasure to photograph many events, weddings, and people of this region and look forward to expanding my commercial practice to support my artistic endeavors and engage with a new range of subjects ... that's where you come in! I am dedicated to producing photographs that are uniquely you while offering a style that is based in the fine art and photojournalistic tradition. That means that the photographs I make for you will never be "cookie-cutter" and will be specifically defined by the individuals and events that I photograph. My goal is to create portraits and documents that my clients proudly display on their walls much like they would a work of art! With me you can always expect the intimate and important aspects of your life to be one of a kind and curated to both my unique style and my client's individual expectations.
Photography has been my passion for over 15 years! I was formally trained in the fine art and documentary tradition of the medium and received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in photography from the University of Dayton and my Master of Fine Arts at Columbia College Chicago. My fine art work has been exhibited widely, both nationally and internationally, as well as featured in several publications including The British Journal of Photography and Real Simple Magazine (you can see that work here: www.juliereneejones.com ). In the summer of 2007 I teamed up with my best friend and amazing portrait photographer Rebekah Thomson (owner of Flash Photography Studios) to start up a wedding photography business, Aperture Science Photography. After several years of photographing weddings and events all around the Dayton region and beyond Rebekah and I moved to concentrate on exciting new opportunities individually: Rebekah working towards opening her own portrait studio, Flash Photography Studios, while I focused in on my interests as an educator and artist. I remain as committed to my role as an educator of the photographic medium as I am to its use in my artistic practice, currently holding the position of Lecturer in photography at the University of Dayton. In the summer of 2017 Rebekah and I decided to rekindle that relationship through Flash Photography Studios acquisition of the beautiful and historic Partington Springs House - a bed & breakfast style property with six acres of lush, natural landscape that will host a variety of events, parties, and most importantly...weddings! I will be offering my wedding photography services there; please contact me for more information about scheduling your wedding day photography at the Partington Springs House (Discounted rate for all-inclusive package; Limited time only!).
